Auckland Art Gallery Notes

These are the notes that I took whilst we were being taked to about the Auckland Art Gallery. I think that now we know that we need to try and express our ideas through the costumes and through the way that we plan and document all our ideas.

Purpose: To be a creative catalyst for art and idea’s, offering transformational experiences that strengthen and enrich our communities.

What is the Auckland Art Gallery?
  • established in 1888
  • used to be shared with the library
  • 35 exhibition spaces
  • includes auditorium, studio, research library, members lounge & cafe

  • 16,000 artworks around 800 at a time
  • 11th century oldest artwork
  • different types of collections

  • the artwork belongs to the people of Auckland not the art gallery
  • a lot of people look after the artwork and decide what is shown on display
  • there is not just paintings in the art gallery but sculptures aswell.

Sustainibility

Sustainability matters to me because..

We are finding ways to look after our nature without buying a lot of new items and using a lot of electricity etc.

I want to change...

The way we use items like how we don't always re use items and we just chuck them,

Because..

It doesn't help the nature around us.

My big projects goal I am working towards is...

To get all my work finished.

Reflection

Today we were brainstorming about random and crazy ideas we could link sustainability with our designs and costumes. Our group (Petra, Cody, and me) came up with a lot of ideas most of them involving either bubbles or glow sticks or something glow in that dark. We have already decided what we wanted Alice to look like but we havent really decided what we wanted the Mad Hatter to look like because there is so many different things. We learnt that 'Wonderland' was going to be placed in New Zealand so we have to add so Maori patterns and designs into our costumes mostly the Red Queens and stuff. Not all of our ideas were realistic for Alice but some of them were do able.
In class we were brainstorming on ideas on the school show. Not all of the ideas we came up with in our groups were realistic but we also came up with really different ideas and crazy ideas. We also thought about ways we can show sustainability through the show and the costume ideas we had. We thought of Incorporating New Zealand in it and showing a certain theme. Me Geo and Petra also came up with some weird ideas realistic and crazy. one of them was to have bubbles coming out of the dress and the other one was to have bubbles coming out of the dress and things like that.

How Do We Make The Idea of Sustainability more Visible in our Community?

📝How Do We Make The Idea of Sustainability more                    Visible in our Community?

In groups we needed to brainstorm different ways we could make sustainability more visible in our community for our costumes, no matter how crazy or how unbelievable the idea was.

Crazy ideas

This week in the groups that we are working in for the final costumes we had to try and create the craziest idea's that we could for our costumes. I found it hard to come up with idea's when we allready have idea's about what our finial product can look like but it was good to try something new. Here are our ideas

Evidence of Planning

This is what we have been brainstorming for how we were going to do the costumes and how we can link Cultural , Environmental , Social and Economic Sustainability into our show.

Below is a plan of what we are thinking of doing for our costumes that we are designing:

Below is a plan of what questions we need to address when making the costumes:

These are some brainstorms about costume ideas:

This is what we decided were our five main questions to lead our inquiry:

Questions and Brainstorms - Cadence

Sustainability big questions, around the production and showing sustainability through this.
1.How can we make the community apart of the costume sustainability process/ idea?
2. How can we show sustainability in our costumes?
3.How can be creative and think outside the box when making the costumes?
4.How do we make the characters realistic, bring them to life. How to make them so everyone can clearly tell what character they are?
5.What do we need to do to be efficient, especially time management wise?

For economic we looked at the money profit going into the community to help being more sustainable and thrift shopping/ up cycling. Also a brainstormed idea was using the resources efficiently.

Some ideas from the environment were, reduce, reuse and recycle, saving the environment for the future, working towards minimal waste and energy usage, encouragement of sustainable behaviour and respecting  nature.

Social sustainability was the hardest but the main ideas were making the community a nice safe and clean place for people and making a community people want to live in not are forced/ have to live.

Ideas For Customs

Ideas

We had to come up with ideas about what we could make the customs out of. We could have the weirdest ideas that we could come up with.

Brain storm

Sustainability

sustainability matters to me because..

sustainability means to me coming together as a community

I want to change...

I want to change the way people do things

Because..

It is not fear for the future generation that are going to have to live in the world that we create

My big projects goal I am working towards is...

I am working toward putting all my ideas forward

Questions!!

As a goup of 3 we got together and started to create as many questions as we could. We thought about what we would need for the show and how we could achieve that. I believe that doing this helped us in seeing what we need to acheive by the end of the show and it made us see how much work we have to do in such a short amount of time.
